The Three Trainings - Wiki
The Three Trainings
The Three Trainings is a traditional Buddhist framework for discussing aspects of development that we may work on. They are a summary of what is traditionally called The Noble Eightfold Path. They are:
- Morality which encompasses every aspect of skillful living that is not related to meditation.
- Concentration which encompasses those meditative practices designed to access the concentration states aka the samatha jhanas.
- Widsom which encompasses those meditative practices designed to produce insight into the universal aspects of reality and this cause one to attain the stages of insight and the stages of enlightenment.
Each of these trainings or endeavors has its own set of assumptions, practices, gold standards for success, and other unique aspects, and many problems arise when people do not keep the assumptions of one training or endeavor separate from the other trainings.
