Nirvana is the Sanskrit equivalent of Nibbana, which is the Pali word for it.

Nirvana is used two ways:

• To refer to the complete discontinuity of the field of experience called Fruition.
• To refer to the waking experience of the arahat.

These are radically different usages, making Nirvana another ambiguous term that must be interpreted by its context.
