Noting methods on Goenka retreat

Noting methods on Goenka retreat

I’m going on a 10 day Goenka-taught vipassana retreat in a week, and would really appreciate any guidance on incorporating the noting method. I’m trying for stream entry, and have read about the effectiveness of noting and have experienced some benefits through my preliminary experiments.

What might work well? Noting what arises while scanning? Alternating periods of noting with periods of body scanning? Generally following standard Goenka instructions, but noting when I get stuck or when other objects present themselves (eg thoughts or emotions) that the Goenka technique might not pick up on so easily?

When sensations arise very rapidly (much quicker than the verbalized noting labels can keep up with), I think Daniel recommends dropping the labels. At this point, is there any substantial difference between Mahasi and Goenka-style observation?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Olaf,

I've not combined noting and scanning though I've also got some interest like yourself. In the absence of a reply from someone with actual experience of this you might find this thread at KFD helpful.
