Vipassana (S.N Goenka) + Kelly Howell Deep Meditation

Hi

Is it a good idea to combine Vipassana (S.N Goenka) + Kelly Howell Deep Meditation ?

About a month ago I did a 10 day vipassana course. While reading up on the internet i came across kelly howell deep meditation audio. I bought it and tried doing vipassana alongwith the audio. I have done it 4-5 times, once a day.

Are there any drawbacks to this approach.

I used to try those years ago. At best they can help with sleep or to relax you with delta and alpha waves. The real meditation practice is what you need. Getting good at real meditation means you'll look at those cds like coasters. emoticon

This one contains Theta, Delta, Beta, Alpha waves.

The site states :
This classic meditation program has been extensively used and studied by biofeedback therapists. In a study conducted by The Other 90% in San Francisco, using a 24 electrode EEG showed that an astounding 87% of research subjects, who had never meditated before, entered the Theta State of advanced meditation.

Using that audio and doing vipassana at the same time, I was able to feel sensations from the base of spine traveling upward which i believe is kundalini.I freaked out and stopped doing that.

Can you point me to a book or resource for beginners so that i can understand it without freaking out.

If I use the audio will i stop learning or improving? I know i need to stop using it as it is not the real thing but i feel it will speed up things a litttle.

Hi Rishi. You said you went on a 10 day course. That course is about as good a start as you can get (at least in that particular vipassana technique). What is preventing you from continuing to practice in the way you were trained?

You can download and use this guided Anapana + Vipassana by Goenkaji. This is in Hindi + English.

Also start attending monthly one-day vipassana organized locally by fellow meditators (usually on Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM, with potluck lunch). Contact your nearest center for local organization. During the one-day course, they use guided anapana and vipassana by Goenkaji from 10:15 AM to 12:45. Try to pay very close attention to those instructions and follow them strictly.
