To "get it done" it is significantly more important to know the nature of experience than whether or not that experience is pleasing, preferred, or desirable?

I am not sure of the difference between knowing the nature of experience and whether or not it is pleasing, preferred or desireable. Generally you don't want to be caught in content, so staying with the sensate helps here.

If what you're asking is, "From an insight point of view, is it better to give preference to observing the universal characteristics of phenomena rather than simply finding experiences that I find pleasant and dwelling in them?" than the answer is a resounding Yes!

If that's not what you're asking, please clarify :-)
