I just want to wish you many happy, healthy returns of your birthday-- and that's basically just for my own benefit :] By setting up this site and sharing your training, your experiences, your re-considerations...you've made a huge and helpful difference in my life. And you've actually paid for us to be able to set up our practices here.

I simply would not have practiced deeply and sincerely for these past three and a half years without what you've set up, without your humility in replying to my first email something like, "More minds are better than one", your reading of old texts, your recommendations on training centres, and mainly your emphasis on honesty, sincerity, actually practicing over jabbering on and on, and actual, pragmatic outcomes no matter the label given to the practice/the experiences --- a huge beneficial effect on me. I also really doubt I would have done this without such a medical doctor in the emergency department (highly practical-outcome-oriented) putting himself out to the entire world sharing his experience and study of the mind from his personal work. To me, this ability to be so open (sometimes aka: "Vulnerable"), is a massive quiet true strength that I hope grows in the world, that I hope also grow in the world.

I can only hope to pay this forward and relax around my own many mistakes in it, too : )

I too would like to thank you. You have given an immeasurable gift to the world in your writing and the Dho. It has helped me immensely and has guided me thru the good and the bad. I wouldn't have gotten to where I am without your great input.

Hey! Thanks everybody! So kind of you to think of me on my birthday.

I am lucky enough to be hanging with some friends in Maggie Valley in the mountains of North Carolina just enjoying the place before I go back to work in Huntsville, Alabama, as my time commuting to and working in Tupelo, Mississississippi has ended.

I also benefit tremendously from everyone here and their input and perspectives, so thanks to you all for everything you post and contribute.

Might as well celebrate this week – adding to the festivities:

13th Weibernachtstag ("Wives' night day") – German Karnival practice when women get to cut-off men's (e.g. bosses, husbands,…) neckties;
14th Valentine's Day (USA);
16th President's Day (USA);
16th Rosenmontag ("Rose Monday" -- climactic German Karnival day)
17th + MardiGras ("Fat Tuesday" -- climactic French/Cajun/Rio carnival day, aka Anglican/Episcopalian "Shrove Tuesday")
18th + Ash Wednesday (for Christians -- the party's over!);
BUT it's also just beginning:
19th Chinese (& broadly Asian) / lunar New Year (two week party, begins 2nd new moon after the winter solstice; ends at full moon; and the party begin/end days happen to be Uposatha days – Buddhist "Sundays")

Next, 40 days after Ash Wednesday, comes Easter; or rather: Ash Wednesday is determined as 40 days prior to Easter, which is the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the spring equinox. (So that puts it into some fixed relationship to the lunar new year?)

Good time, too, to celebrate recovery from the DhO "Snow Moon Massacre" (Full moon on Feb 3, at about the time the thread "Q&A with Kenneth Folk [#1]" morphed into the thread "Money and the Buddha"!
