I have reproduced this result. It's caused by the original poster marking the thread as "Viewable by" "Owner" rather than "Viewable by" "Anyone".

Thanks Derek!  I had to go through a number of my recent responses to other threads and set the permissions (in my response) to "viewable".  I've been noticing lately some "Last Posts" by a user, but the post actually not seen in the thread, so others may want to watch for this.
