Hi! I thought it could be fun to make darknight playlists and share with each other, either for comfort or as a way to laugh at the drama and thus make it less dead serious. Maybe we could have an informal contest? The rule is one tune per nana. I have started. Here is my list:

Haha! I better not watch it tonight then, because I feel like I could turn into one of those after a really shitty day, but you did make me curious.

Okay, I have a contribution: George Crumb’s “Dark Angels.” Ought to come with a warning label. Seriously, listen at your own risk.

ETA: Husband says it’s based on Crumb’s experiences in Vietnam. Perhaps more suitable for the Hell Realms than for most people’s Dark Night.

In typical internet forum fashion, I'll completely ignore the details of your post and just mention here two pieces of music I've associated for years with the dark night:
Polish Poem from the soundtrack to the film Inland Empire. "I cannot feel the warmth of the sun. I cannot hear the laughter...".
Massive Attack vs Burial - Four Walls
Though in truth, I don't think any music I've heard really captures the emotional intensity. You would need something like Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima paired with recordings of people howling in agony and various extreme metallic sounds similar to Merzbow. Not to put any pre-A&P practitioners off or anything... I did a lot of dry insight. With a more samatha-heavy approach apparently most of the dark night effects can be averted. There is also much to be said for really knowing the dark night nanas deeply.

That’s totally okay. Interesting input! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to listening.
I spent at least about a decade circling the dark night before starting any formal practice. For me, insight practice has worked miracles in dealing with the dark night. I consider myself very lucky.

I did a lot of dry insight as well, and some moments of my dark night experiences were hellish.
the hell realms are places where people who have committed awful crimes are reborn. Maybe I should say that Crumb’s “Black Angels” remind me of Dante’s Inferno. Whichever mythology you choose, our minds unfortunately can be capable of torturing us at times.
