six sense doors or unlimted?

I just finished watching a documentary on sensory perception, and some of the new experimental psychology being conducted on this.

It looks like humans may have the capacity to train new senses. In this experiment (link below), researchers trained a man to successfully navigate a course blindfolded, using only his newly learned ability to identify the direction of Earth's magnetic field. Fascinating!

What implications might this have for insight practice? Any?

The six senses are a categorization, which isn't arbitrary, but it is just a categorization, prone to gray areas and outliers (such as synesthesia).

They are researching a device allowing people to "see" using tactile sensations: Your Tongue Can See. Cool hun? emoticon

(I don't think this has any implication for insight practice)

That is awesome. I want one! Doesn't seem so hard to make one either.

I could see one doing this for basically anything. Fun stuff.

I agree w/ Bruno, doesn't have too many implications for insight. Just like you feel a combination of sensations on your skin that you can then identify as 'light breeze' or 'boiling oil', you will feel a combination of sensations on your skin that you can then identify as 'north that way'.
