Hey all, why not organise and categorize all the powers/siddhis?
I don't think it's been done here, especially organization. I'd love to see what crowd source can do besides just listing vs incorporating various types/category.
To get it started- Robert Heinlein

Yes, standard Nondual creates compassion as you are no longer separate. Look a bit deeper into that and see if there might be a bit more.

This article has a lot of information on siddis in Hinduism:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siddhi

These sutras are referenced here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracles_of_Gautama_Buddha#Psychic_Abilities) they have a lot of overlap but discuss abilities in buddhism:

Iddhipada-vibhanga Sutta: Analysis of the Bases of Power

Samaññaphala Sutta: The Fruits of the Contemplative Life

Kevatta (Kevaddha) Sutta: To Kevatta

Better information on Heinlein:

https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Robert_A._Heinlein

I
think I've read almost all his books and short stories. Beloved science fiction writer from the Golden Era, creator of the term "grok," for which I will forever be thankful. May he rest in peace.

Hey Chris, can you recommend one of his good short stories?

It's hard to recommend just one, so here are two:

Lifeline
Blowups Happen

Also, just to throw this in here, my most favorite science fiction AND science fact writer, Isaac Asimov, wrote the best science fiction short story of all time:

Nightfall

And... Asimov wrote the best science fiction trilogy ever:

Foundation (being made into a movie for Apple+)
Foundation and Empire
Second Foundation

<Apologies to the topic originator for being so off-topic, and to fans of Frank Herbert's Dune trilogy.>

My favorite Heinlein quote is:

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/697618-throughout-history-poverty-is-the-normal-condition-of-man-advances
“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck.”

Some lists of buddhist powers -

4 powers of a buddha:
1 - pacifying
2 - enriching
3 - magnetizing
4 - destroying

6 supercognitions of a bodhisattva:
1 - clairvoyance
2 - clairaudience
3 - telepathy
4 - past life recall
5 - general ability to perform miracles
6 - knowing the end of all mental continuums

There are a bunch more listed on this page -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E1%B9%9Addhi

According to Bowker, there are eight ṛddhi powers:[4]

  • Replicate and project bodily images of oneself,
  • Make oneself invisible,
  • Pass through solid objects,
  • Sink into solid ground,
  • Walk on water,
  • Fly,
  • Touch the sun and moon with one's hand,
  • Ascend to the world of the god Brahmā in the highest heavens
According to the Iddhipada-vibhanga Sutta (SN 51.20)[5]

  • Having been one he becomes many; having been many he becomes one.
  • He appears. He vanishes.
  • He goes unimpeded through walls, ramparts, & mountains as if through space.
  • He dives in and out of the earth as if it were water.
  • He walks on water without sinking as if it were dry land.
  • Sitting crosslegged he flies through the air like a winged bird.
  • With his hand he touches & strokes even the sun & moon, so mighty & powerful.
  • He exercises influence with his body even as far as the Brahma worlds.
In the book Great Disciples of the Buddha by Nyanaponika Thera and Hellmuth Hecker, there are several additional powers described.

  • The Divine Eye (Clairvoyance)- this power allows one to see beings in other realms as well as see the future
  • The Divine Ear (Clairaudience)
  • Travel by Mind-Made Body (Astral Travel)
  • Travel with the Physical Body (to other realms)
  • Telekinesis (Supernormal Locomotion)
  • Flying
  • The power of Transformation
  • The ability to replicate one's body
  • Penetration of others' minds (Thought Reading)
  • Passing through solid objects
  • Diving in and out of the Earth as if through water
  • Walking on water
  • Touching the sun and the moon with one's fingers
  • Becoming invisible
  • Recollection of past lives (some would call this a power, some would call it true knowledge)
