Try going the other way. Take that sense of self and try to make it as solid as you can. Maximize that sense of solidity and see what happens.

Try alternating between focusing on your sense of self and then focusing on what you see around you or what you hear, and let that sensory input fill your mind. Notice the difference in how each feels.
