...anyhow, author of this topic wrote about locking oneself in some place without distractions (so also without telephone/internets/etc.) to meditate and haven't written ever since... hope she did not overshoot her practice and go directly to parinibbana... emoticon

Hi Christie, and welcome to DhO, where every door out is always open, lol.

I see that you haven't been here since late October, and I hope you didn't set the timer wrong on your self-locking cell! If so, I hope you emerge better for the retreat.

Balzac used to chain himself to his writing desk, when he was determined to finish a novel. So the self-locking idea in the service of a higher aim is not unprecedented. Odysseus had himself tied to the mast, so he could hear the sirens' song as his ear-plugged crew rowed past them, another self-locking in the service of art and contemplation. So you're in good company. I have been in a few locked cells myself, but other people had the keys. still, we meditate where we find ourselves.

There are a few meditators here as well, lol. Feel free to join the mayhem.

It's a page long PDF on how to turn a room in your home into a meditation cell which you can lock yourself into for an alloted amount of time. It's very useful.

Perhaps bringing in a small rock hammer (sort of like a fire axe) to break open self locking container in the rare case that someone is screaming for help outside of the room, lol.
