In this new episode I host part 3 of a dialogue between Shinzen Young, meditation teacher and neuroscience research consultant, and Chelsey Fasano, a Columbia University neuroscience student.

From the show notes:
We discuss oneness vs emptiness experiences, gamma brain activity and binding, Posner’s model of attention networks, and more.
Chelsey explores the surprising similarities between mystical experience, epilepsy, and orgasm; while Shinzen reveals the profound challenge of integrating esoteric states into practical life.

really?

1:22:38 - Dr Jay Sanguinetti and part 4 cliffhanger

honestly I'm so surprised! Totally gobsmaked by this amazing development. I never imagined that that would happen at all! No Never.

Have not watched this yet, but come on how many episodes are there going to be?

It looks like it's all been planned ahead, why pretend that it 'just happens like that'? Unless there a commercial deal been done perhaps???

I think it's the opposite of that, and that bothers me. I think they don't have any plan or direction. I'd expect much more from Shinzen. I think they are both are emotional about it.
It's very good that this project happens (thanks to all 3 of you guys), it's a new format that opens doors for dialoge, but they could do better.

I listened to the second one and found his mansplaining really cringeful. She would start saying something intelligent and then he would jump in to "clarify" it and give a tedious off-topic monologue. She seemed to be rightly annoyed by this, but eventually gave up and adopted a bizarrely starstruck attitude.

Yes.
I think Shinzen is emotional that they are "doing science" (which is not his main field and despite now having a lab, he doesn't have a degree for it, and he is impressed about it), and Chelsey is emotional that Shinzen continues to accept her and talk with her, and that fucks the whole thing.
If Jay agrees to participate, probably he can help balance it.

People get impressed too easily these days and that fucks my soul.

There isn't any standard. I am just comparing the people that I know (online & offline), with how I think it was in pre-modern times, and that itself is an emotional reaction on my side more than anything.

Yeah I sometimes think like that and then I wonder if people really were less impressionable, maybe they were more so
