Isolated practitioner: posting progress and significant events

Greetings, I'm a two plus year practitioner of insight meditation. This is my first post. I'm excited to learn as much as I'm able about awakening.

I started to meditate 20 plus years ago in college after a few experiences that made me suspect my vision of reality was limited. I quickly quit after not understanding practice very well and being turned off by Buddhism as religion. Sorry, that is the best I can say that for now. I mean no offense.

The secular Buddhist movement caught and kept my interest two years ago.

I've had some amazing experiences:

- Sudden comprehension of complicated concepts that were previously beyond me that have remained.

- An event that had me choosing between life and death and feeling equanimous about the choice.

- Visions of childhood trauma from a non-judgemental "me" that saw cause and effect reaching back beyond my life in a chain-like visual representation.

I look forward to learning from this community.

Hi John

Awakening practice is very human thing. It has nothing whatsoever to do with any religion.

Welcome.
