Shargrol Book When?!?

Posts: 8 Join Date: 1/3/21 Recent Posts
Over the past half-decade, I have practiced Vipassana meditation, experiencing the typical trials and tribulations that accompany it. Most of this time has been without the guidance of a formal teacher due to the lack of true Dharma in my area and my limited time (thanks to living in the U.S. South and work intensity!). Throughout these years, I have repeatedly turned to the books and writings of those wiser than I.

The list of online teachers I’ve studied is extensive, and I have read this forum practically cover to cover during these years, collecting excellent recommendations on literature as well as compilations (thank you, Pepe!) from those who post here.

Yet, in all this time, I’ve had a persistent feeling that a particular user could offer so much more to the world by publishing a written text: Shargrol!
With this humble post, I am curious if Shargrol, or anyone close to Shargrol, knows whether they have any plans to write a book. Their sharp Dharma insights, combined with their gentle writing style, could cut straight to the root for many practitioners. That same language has been of immeasurable help to me on this path. A work from them could benefit many beings, and I might also benefit from a firm "NO" if that's not in the cards.

So, I say all this to ask... Shargrol book when?!

P.S. I have also been helped immensely by Chris Marti, Bahiya Baby, Linda, Dreamwalker, Adi Vader, and many others. But I feel that Shargrol has enough written content at this point that we could practically copy and paste it into a book, with edits from the author themselves.

Shargrol is an excellent writer. I always notice that. There's a cohesion to the writing and the point that's being made, it's all structured very well and the inclusion of occassional misspellings and incorrect uses of punctuation goes a long way toward keeping everything casual and relaxed ;)

I'm curious too. I suspect Shargrol either enjoys the challenge of dealing with meditators head on or already has an empire of bestselling dharma manuals.

You're welcome! If I remember correctly, he mentioned writing a practice-oriented book a year or two ago. So it makes sense to gather as much data as possible by interacting online with practitioners of all experience levels. So no need to hurry! Great meals aren’t rushed—slow cooking brings out the best flavors.

Oh! Round here, a barbecue takes anywhere from 2 to 5 hours... so it's a given the need of some cheese, salami and red wine to kill time while staring at the fire  emoticon emoticon

Shargrol is great. But do we really need another dharma book.  It's been explained well already by many

I strongly disagree with this sentiment. True understanding of the dharma is vanishingly rare. Most practitioners are misled in at least a few major ways, crippling their practice.

We need better pedagogy. And we need dharma writing from a diversity of voices, so it can reach a diversity of people. If you, reader, think you can contribute to dharma pedagogy, please try to do so.

Nice sentiment and agreed.  Anyone who cares enough about this stuff, can back it up with experience, and has the fortitude to write a book, the more the merrier.  New thoughts and perspectives can have wide and surprising benefit - just look at MCTB.  Now waiting for the 2nd gen pragmatic dharma books to arive. ;)

Exactly! Shargrol seems to have an uncanny pointing towards the root of the issue. I do suspect he has been teaching Dharma in his own way (obviously on forums like this)  it wouldn't surprise me if in person for some time as well.

Thanks for the response, Pepe! It's good to hear he's mentioned a written project. That has answered one of my questiosn, at least.

IMHO MCTB is great but a bit of a beginners book. The one everyone loves here as a follow on is Seeing that Frees. Wake Up to Your Life and Clarifying the Natural State also get referenced a good amount (but right now STF my current favorite, and despite trying WUTYL and CTNS havent really resonated with me).

For sure, there's lots more dharma out there, I just meant books from people specifically inspired and influenced by mctb.

Also beginners book lol, depends on your definition..
