Thoughts and the Unborn mind

Hi, first post here. I've been practicing not very rigidly somewhere between one and two years(?). Recently I've made some progress, but this just has been dealing with hindrances and understanding that all my assumptions about things are absolutely moronic emoticon Many months ago I'd read a book about Bankei and tried "abiding in the Unborn" as I'd understood it, which at the time was noticing thoughts arise and not letting them unravel (keeping the mind empty). At first it seemed impossible to keep doing this ("what if i have to figure something complex fast, like how to get somewhere without a place to write it down?"), but I did learn how to do things without internal monologue successfully, this was difficult however, and I dropped it, thinking that this was not what was intended by abiding in the Unborn. Recently my internal monologue has been getting in the way of things again. I'm sure about the noticing part, but what about whether to let thoughts stop on their own, or to make an effort to stop them? Maybe this is discussed in MCTB, but I'm only 1/6 done with it. Thanks

edit: I can't seem to find a way to reply..? Only edit

What if the point of mediation practice is to help us just be with everything that arises in our minds? What if it's not helpful to try to control our experiences - like thoughts?
