"False authorship or redundant publication is no solitary act. It occurs in an organizational setting that either elicits such behaviour or does nothing to prohibit it. Such a setting creates a climate for malpractice: the combination of silence, lack of monitoring, and unknown rules equals a conspiracy of normlessness". - Daryl E. Chubin.

I can't imagine that anyone has actually read this book.

It is a bit heavy going, but worth reading, if you're into that sort of thing!

I've pored through the densest of textbooks - but a bit of poking around sent up some warning flags for me with this book.

Can you summarize it briefly so I can verify we're on the same page as to what the book is actually about?

I suggest checking out the preface. It's quirky, but looks interesting. I recently left a job in biomedical research, and share his cynicism about the field and the scope for publication of distorted results, although I am surprised that the problems extend all the way back to the 70s. This is something which is getting increasing attention in mainstream science, though the price for addressing the issue head-on will be high for many established researchers, so there is a lot of political resistance to doing so:

That said, while the topic is a bit of a hobby horse of mine, it's totally irrelevant to this forum.

HI fivebells.

I think your point is quite relevant to the forum. Practice starts to unveil stories that have been surrounding everything one does, and livelihood and how one lives is part of that.
