Building a Pragmatic Dharma iPhone App

Hi guys,

Kenneth Folk and I have been collaborating on an iPhone app that is now on the App Store at:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mind-blown/id570108550?ls=1&mt=8

The main features right now are a noting tracker, experience journaling, and a small news feed / community component.

Its still in its infancy, but I want to evolve this into the ultimate pragmatic dharma app focusing on states, stages, wild consciousness experiences with the right balance of vulnerability and bragging that I respect this community for.

I would really appreciate BRUTALLY HONEST feedback about how the app may or may not contribute to your practice and what you'd like to see in an app like this.

(I really really need your guys' help to make this awesome, so please check it out and share your feedback)

Thanks!

-Justin

One thing I'm going to be adding the future is voice recognition of noting, but unfortunately the accuracy of the libraries I have found is still not good enough yet. For now, the interface is to tap the phone screen to register a note.

Hi Justin and Kenneth,

I just tried it and I like it. I am not great at noting and found it hard to sit for a length of time noting things (non-verbally). I tried this app and it helped me focus and I really go into it. I did 573 notes about a note a second non-stop which is a good session for me. Will keep using and then may have some feedback on how to add to it. Thanks. Great idea. emoticon

May I suggest gestures for noting? Swipe left for sight, up for touch, etc. The feed with people practice is a pretty good idea.

Hi Andrew, it looks like the earliest version we support is iOS 4.3. :-/ It becomes increasingly difficult with time to support old iOS versions, because as soon as we use some new cool shiney Apple feature, we become tied to newer devices

Hi Simon, I actually played around with swipe gestures like that, but it felt too cumbersome and it became hard to use while just walking and not looking at the phone. I'm thinking of trying out a slight shake gesture as an alternative to the tap so maybe we can see how that works.
