Something you write down, or tell yourself that resonates well and actually works..

Pema Chodron, Thich Nhat Hanh have a lot of these.

One that helped me from the time i started and still helps me is "You can't win".

All objects of awareness are not the subject; mind and body are objects of awareness; therefore mind and body are not the subject.

What am I not seeing clearly?

Some Taoist quotes I like:

"The most extensive knowledge does not necessarily know it; reasoning will not make men wise in it. The sages have decided against both these methods".

"A dog is not reckoned good because he barks well, and a man is not reckoned wise because he speaks skillfully".

"Non-action does not mean doing nothing and keeping silent. Let everything be
allowed to do what it naturally does, so that its nature will be satisfied".

"Be aware of your desperation" - interpreting S.N Goenka in his discourse. I think he says "be aware of your respiration" but it rings to me as desperation and thats more motivating.

I also know the entire passage by heart, but this line often has sounded out--
"Living faith is discomforting to the last degree...." from the Open Door by Helen Keller

Recently, (from the same passage), I heard this part:
"Passive faith is no more a force than sight is in an eye that does not look or search out."

I can send you the entire passage if you like.

There is another that came over and over again:

"Ask yourself: could I stay here forever?" - I think I first heard that said (or something similar) by Dan and have heard it many times and also from other people since then. I took it to mean this: "if my experience of life is not so absolutely perfect that I would not change a single thing even if (hypothetically) given the option to, then I have work to do."

"Chance favours the prepared mind". Pasteur, via Daniel (who actually used "grace", a more apropos term here).

I use this to motivate me and my practice.

Various sutured-together parts from suttas about jhana, which I think apply to both vipassana and shamatha jhanas.

Warning about the dark night following the A&P, and instructions for dealing with it: "with the fading of rapture, he remains equanimous, mindful, & alert."

Instructions for reaching equanimity: "With the abandoning of sukha and dukkha — as with the earlier disappearance of joy and misery — he enters & remains in the fourth jhana: purity of equanimity & mindfulness."

These have all helped me a lot...

"Resistance is Futile"
- Star Trek

"Start Again. Start Again."
"Die Smilingly"
- S.N. Goenka (to be said with Goenka's voice)

"Do it (any pleasure, craving, etc.) all you want, it just won't make you happy. Believe it (any belief, thought, etc.) all you want, that just won't actually make it true." (paraphrased)
"The most important thing is to find out what is the most important thing"
- Adyashanti

"And then there was this moment"

Some from forthright Deleuze:

“A desire lacking nothing, a flux that overcomes barriers and codes, a name that no longer designates any self whatsoever. He has simply ceased being afraid of becoming mad. He experiences and lives himself as the sublime sickness that will no longer affect him.” – Deleuze

“Shit on your whole mortifying, imaginary, and symbolic theatre. What does schizoanalysis ask? Nothing more than a bit of a relation to the outside, a little real reality.” – Deleuze

“Sublimate fast or you’re out of here! Asshole!” – Guattari
