I recommend Dharma That Every Buddhist Must Follow by Amang Nopu Pamu, a book that has been called the mother of the mother of all dharma by a famous dharma king (who was humble enough to call himself "a simple monk"). No matter what tradition in which one has taken refuge, one may rely on this text as definitive teachings and guidelines for that tradition and all Buddhist traditions.

I also recommend Ken Wilbers book Integral Spirituality, which may serve as an overview of as well as an introduction to his system of mind state mapping. Integral Spirituality also explains short comings (mainly unnecessary taboos, and important stages) overlooked in the Buddhist tradition and how to not get stuck, which is so common. One can expect Wilber's system, outlined in this book, to round out and boost your practice, as well as heal and prevent wounds.

Hey man I might have to check out that book. What did Wilber say Buddhist need to look to outside of thier tradition? I personally find that within the tradition there is too much emphasis on renunciation and monastic chauvinism. Not to mention preposterous ideas of lobotomized arhats being the ideal...

never underestimate the value of lobotomized arhats.
At a workshop with Wiber I asked him why he thought Theravadin Insight practice was limited and Tibetan Practice is superior.
He told me to go back and continue practice(concentration/insight) for five years and then I would see.(paraphrase)
