Does anyone have any info on the state of MBMC lately? I see it recommended in MCTB, but on the wiki it says the teacher may not be present.
I'm looking for any retreat in SE Asia or a place where I can afford to go on retreat long term. I've been practicing meditation over the last year after doing a 10-day vipassana retreat, and I want to dedicate more time to deepen my practice. I'm interested in trying MBMC or a Mahasi center.
Thanks for the advice!

Have you looked at TMC in San Jose California? Their next month-long retreat is in September. See http://www.tathagata.org/

Sayadaw U Pannathami led my first Mahasi-style retreat at TMC (it was also for three weeks). He's a very good teacher, his English is pretty clear (not unaccented, but I had no trouble understanding him), he's very kind, considerate and understanding towards yogis having a hard time. The meditation instructions and advice he gave me were quite useful.

If thinking of going to MBMC, consider also Panditarama Lumbini.
Best wishes for your retreat. May it be fruitful.

Daniel,
I wouldn't have known about MBMC if i hadn't read your book. Many thanks for that.
I will only do 11days in Penang but hoping that will get me to a good place. Hoping that I'm able to maintain focus during the rest of the month in George Town and Singapore. I was in Singapore in November and found it most welcoming for Buddhist meditators.

Early next year in perhaps March I am looking for a place within to do a 14 day Mahasi retreat
I will be in Malaysia , so anywhere around there within an hours flight.
Is MBMC still recommended or is there somewhere else in the area that people consider currently better?
Thanks

just finished 11day retreat at MBMC. it was great in part because of the Parithami visitng from Burma. He delivered talks in English most nights which were translated into Chinese. these is my first Mahasi method meditation after ~75days of retreat in six years.
if i am granted sabatical in 2018, I hope to return for at least three weeks in malaysia though i could also do two months in Burma.
I wanted to explain to the Sayadaw how happy i was to meditate. How i had been through a lot with my wife leaving me with our two daughters. This must have fallen outside of permissable interview dialogue. He didn't say anything.

What is your experience here? It seems to be a good quality retreat at an affordable price ($25/day + donation). Also easier to get to for those of us living in North America.
Thanks!
