Forum: Places to Practice

Can you please suggest few centers in India where I can practice under proper guidance.
After reading the book by Danial Ingram and also going through this wonderful website I feel it will be very good to do a course in the tradition of Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw. If there are no centers in India then the only other option for me will be to go to some other country like Malaysia (MBMC), Burma, etc.
Just to give you a background, for the past few years I have been attending many 10-day courses in SN Goenka Centers.
Thank you.

Hello,

I'm also curious about this. Do you know if there is any Mahasi centers in India that is open for long term retreats year round, or alternativly an insight meditation center in any tradition that one could alternativly go to for a longer retreat?

I heard about a center run by a monk who supposedly attained to what I believe was at least stream-entry under Dipa Ma (from the book about her by Amy Schmidt which I don't have around these days) who started a center in Bodh Gaya inspired by this. Does anyone know anything about this center?

Thanks!

I guess part of what I'm asking about is this:

Is India (and then Bodh Gaya might be the most likely location) a good place to to just hang out, travel around a bit, and do lots of retreats?

:-)

hi Akmi,

You get some very good meditation centers following the Mahasi method in Sri Lanka.

this is what i have in SRI LANKA
i have no word from anyone who has been there, i tried posting it on other forums as well. but reading the site, it looks very accomodating

This one has one recommendation from a fellow meditator ( SRI LANKA also )

this one too: Rathmalkanda Hermitage

The meditation teacher from Kanduboda went to upcountry and established a meditation center there.
