Deep Zen practitioner and longtime student of Joshu Sasaki Roshi died this week. I suggest people listen to "Hallelujah" to engage writh his understanding of the unconditioned. Also, this documentary is about his relationship with Sasaki Roshi: https://m.youtube./watch?v=HJuJQI0RMiw

Thanx for posting this Noah.
Anyone know what the proximate cause of death was? All the obituaries I've read don't say. I've read that he was performing as recently as this summer.

This interview/profile is from about a month ago. It's really well written and goes back and forth between a contemporary interview with him (like, several weeks ago I think) and an overview of his life and work with some great quotes from his contemporaries, especially Dylan. I found it very moving, but I can't remember if it goes into detail about his health issues. Nevertheless he was anticipating death and was in quite a bit of discomfort iirc.
"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in"

Hi . Jake .,
Thanx for posting the poem, it is really great!
I've been hauted by "Hallelujah!" ever since I heard it performed by a friend's daughter at a Christmas party. Even though it is massively overplayed and has become almost muzak.
