Hi ya'll!

There will be a few changes implemented to the DhO message boards at some point today:

1. Topics or threads listings (like Recent) will now list the topic creator

2. Each message board post will include the time and date it was first posted. The date/time data by default is stored and displayed in the GMT timezone, so if you want to have the date/times displayed in your timezone, you should set it in your account settings in:

Account Settings ==> Preferences tab ==> Display Settings

For example, my time zone is central time in the US, so my Display Settings are set to GMT-5

3. Recent Items lists and search results will go back to the beginning of DhO time - so the recent posts page that previously showed 31 pages with around 600 posts, now shows 537 pages and 10,734 posts.

Message board posts will now list when the original post was made (date and time) and again when the most recent edit (modification) was made to the post, also listing the date and time.

More changes are coming to the DhO message boards today.

The topic shortcuts that you may recall from a few years ago will appear again at the very top of the display for each topic. These shortcuts appear as a series of links, one for each post on the topic. An indented link is a reply to the post in the previous link in the list. A bold typeface link is a post that remains unread by you. So, you'll be able to see which posts you've read and which you haven't when you first visit each topic after having been away from the message boards.

There is also a link in the lower right-hand corner of each message that says “Top,” with a green arrow. next to it. That link will take you back to the top of the thread. Clicking that link will not mark the message as “read” in the shortcut list, however. If you refresh the page, all of the shortcut links will be marked as read. This behavior is part of how Liferay is structured and can’t be changed, but we think having these features is, on balance, a great improvement for all of us as we navigate the DhO message boards.

​​​​​​​I remember using these shortcuts all the time when we had them before, so I'm thrilled to have them back. They make navigating to specific posts on a topic much, much easier.

Any chance the camel coloured background could be upgraded to something less hideous? It puts me off getting enlightened. 

Edward, the background can be changed easily. I had it set to a light blue color some time ago and then someone else wanted it changed to the current color. Shall we hold a referendum? How much does the background color matter?

Well, I decided to change the message board background color to blue. Holler at me here if you find this color objectionable.

Oh no not the 80's Blue colored bathroom tiles, please no! Fuck I too will have issues to awaken with this color hitting me poor neurons!!! 

What about Surf Green? Everybody likes surf green and is not as aggressive as Candy Apple Red. 

I'm partial to the blue background myself.

Very thankful for Siavash's and Chris' fine work on this!

I personally would make the blue more light/pale, as the contrast isn't great for my slightly aging eyes, but appreciate the calming effect.

Ok, that's better! #E1FAFF seems easier to read to me and has just a hint more green in it. Let me know if that works well for people.

Question: is there an spell checker?

​​​​​​​There is no spellchecker inside Liferay or DhO. That said, I use a third party spell and grammar checker called "Grammarly" and that then spell checks for me as I post here in real time.

I'd like to think of it as productively usable now.

As Chris said, there is no spellchecker in the default editor, but if you click the Advanced Reply button, and in that editor, click the Source button and click on the text inside the editor, it does the spell checking there. Hopefully we can have the spell checker in the default editor too in the future.

That one is part of your browser, not part of DhO or Liferay 

At some time today, the DhO message boards will get another upgrade. This time, two different optional views of threads will be the focus. You will be able to choose the view you like:

1. Tree view - this is the view we've been using for a while now, where replies to individual comments show up underneath those comments

2. Flat view (my personal favorite) - this view shows all posts and replies in chronological order based in the original posting date

Both of these views will continue to show the posting tree at the top of the page.

Please use the new views as you see fit and post any problems you encounter here on this topic.

Back to the future!

There seem to be some technical issues today, and I don't know if they are related to ongoing changes or something else. In my log today I couldn't see the new post from Freya. I tried over and over. Then I changed from flat view to tree view, and suddenly I could see it and reply to it, and then I added an additional post. Now a friend told me that he can't read the last three messages in my log.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to report it. 

This is the place! - to report any message board issues. I just tried and was able to replicate that problem on your log, Linda. The only way I could find to fix it was to change back and forth from "flat" to "tree" view, and then back again. I'll notify Siavash, our Liferay shaman.

Yes, thanks for the tip, Linda (flat view to tree view) : it worked for me as well. I replied, it was taking a looong time and the message disappeared, so I gave up and left, but my reply appeared in the end... Great.
I wanted to renew my thanks to Siavash, because the Dho is back to its old self, largely thanks to him (and to the others who run the thing behind the scene,winks to Chris and to a few more...). Ok, old self is not perfect (which self is?) but is usable at least, once again... especially on a smartphone to navigate long threads.
So, once again, hurray to the Dho wizard !

Hi I have reduced functionality, all I can do is reply on others posts. There is no function for me to start a new thread. Is this an issue with my browser or the site?

For the record, the same problem has been encountered in my log 2, so I suspect that it happens to lengthy threads. Changing from flat view to tree view made the invisible posts appear there as well. 

Yes it seems that there is an issue in the flat view with threads that have high number of posts. For now please use the tree view for those threads, I'll try to find the causing and fix it.
