After a short two month affliction with congestive heart failure, Chris Macie passed away around 3 PM Pacific Time on June 25 in a recovery nursing home near San Jose. I don't know how many of you knew Chris, he was active on DhO from around 2011 through 2014 or so, but then left to hang out in Sutta Central and other sites with a more scholarly direction. Chris was an accomplished jhana practitioner, and well read in the Suttas and classical meditation literature. He would often come on DhO and argue or discuss something from the Sutta perspective, favoring the approach of the Forest Monk tradition when it came to meditation practice. For retreat practice, he went to the Tathagatha Meditation Center in San Jose. Chris and I were Dharma buddies from Insight Meditation South Bay. He was also an acupunturist, an expert in Chinese herbs, an early particpant in the pre-commercial Internet (he was a member of the Well), an accomplished organist, and a good friend.

Thanks svmonk for letting us know. I didn’t know Chris but it’s very inspiring to hear about the lives of accomplished practitioners. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Damn... Thanks for letting us know.  I never interacted with Chris 1-1 but I enjoyed communicating with him via the forum format & also found his posts on DhO & SuttaCentral helpful.  I think you captured his posting style & the value of it well.

I recall Chris' reliably unique and somewhat fastidious posting style of dharma exegesis and critique … representing one pole of the communal discourse. I enjoyed his contributions and I’m sorry to hear of his passing.
