Have you ever powered up through the stages into High EQ, with forehead glowing, and whole body tingling and maybe catch a .002 second glimpse of probably-not-a-formation and start screaming,
"I AM THE BUDDHA REBORN, I DEMAND ENTRANCE HERE!" ?
I might have done that once or twice.
Likely the exact opposite of what I'm supposed to be doing at that point.
Words like striving, and delusional come to mind.

Hi Shaun,
Well, now that you mention it, yes.
You can read about it in my practice memoir (Silicon Valley Monk, available free on Google Books and Smashwords). My wife had to fly to the East Coast and bust me out of an insane asylm.
Anyway, one thing I do here on DhO is give advice to people who, like me, have suffered negative side effects from meditation. I believe there is not enough said about it in the community at large, and most people to which it happens are quite confused, because all they hear is happy talk about meditation in the media. What is not said is that meditation is a powerful technique for fundamentally transforming your mind and its relation to reality, equivalent to psychedelic drugs, but not as random in its effects. And it can go in a wrong direction that has little or nothing to do with your previous mental stability.
Hope that helps.
