Could someone explain to me, in simple terms, how 'God' figures in Buddhism?

God is a complex of concepts, ideas, images, mental states, feelings, behaviors, associations, memories ...

If  its the big G god then no we dont worship such a being. I have seen through searching this quote from the Jatakas :

If Brahma is lord of the whole world and Creator of the multitude of beings, then why has he ordained misfortune in the world without making the whole world happy; or for what purpose has he made the world full of injustice, falsehood and conceit; or is the lord of beings evil in that he ordained injustice when there could have been justice
and even if such a being exists , it still doesnt matter since the focus is on the noble eightfold path rather than worshipping a God.

But in Buddhist literature there are devas which can be god like but they still suffer from cyclical existence.

Hey,

If you are talking about God, then I think it's irrelevant to apply human concepts about it.
Justice, injustice, good, bad, happy, unhappy, suffering, peace, time, space etc, these are all human concepts, they don't apply to God.
If it's God, then it doesn't have any goals, it doesn't think, it doesn't plan, it doesn't enjoy or regret, and all of such things that we say about it, are basically wrong, because we take some human ideas and apply that to it.
Probably we could just say: it manifests.

At the end of the day , I think whether he or she or they  exists doesnt matter. What matters are our actions in this world  not through worshipping or ruminating about such beings .

When God, the unknowable, disappears from culture men are quick to reinvent Him, in any fashion. Not knowing, is a scary proposition."Furthermore, a noble disciple recollects the deities:There are the Gods of the Four Great Kings, the Gods of the Thirty-Three, the Gods of Yama, the Joyful Gods, the Gods Who Love to Create, the Gods Who Control the Creations of Others, the Gods of Brahmā’s Host, and gods even higher than these. When those deities passed away from here, they were reborn there because of their faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom. I, too, have the same kind of faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom.’ When a noble disciple recollects the faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom of both themselves and the deities their mind is not full of greed, hate, and delusion. At that time their mind is unswerving, based on the deities. A noble disciple whose mind is unswerving finds joy in the meaning and the teaching, and finds joy connected with the teaching. When you’re joyful, rapture springs up. When the mind is full of rapture, the body becomes tranquil. When the body is tranquil, you feel bliss. And when you’re blissful, the mind becomes immersed in samādhi. This is called a noble disciple who lives in balance among people who are unbalanced, and lives untroubled among people who are troubled. They’ve entered the stream of the teaching and develop the recollection of the deities." (With Mahānāma - https://suttacentral.net/an6.10/en/sujato)

And for this reason it is not called a cloud of the air, but a cloud of unknowing, that is betwixt thee and thy God.
