Hey Sven,
I don't have experience with Phillip Kapleau's lineage in particular, but the lineage I practice stems from Harada/Yasutani to Taizan Meizumi, to John Daido Loori, to my teacher Geoffrey Shugen Arnold, current head of the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism. The main house Zen Mountain Monastery is near Woodstock, NY, and they have a temple in Brooklyn. That's where I practice formally.
