evolutionary brain and suffering stages of insight

This is a simple theoretical idea about lining up stages of insight and basic neurology, as an intellectual musing. Not sure if it is relevant or useful, let's see.

Rick Hanson describes our basic needs related to 3 evolutionary blocks of brain circuitry:
  1. safety / reptilian brain;
  2. satisfaction / mammal brain;
  3. connection / primate brain.
Visuddhimagga dark night sequence is:
  1. bhaya-ñana (unsafety, fear);
  2. adinava-ñana (misery, unable to satisfy, body/mind inherently producing suffering);
  3. nibbida-ñana (depression, melancholy, loneliness; dispassion, and in a way the tendency to disconnection).
(munchitukamayata-, patisankha- & sankharupekha-ñanas are said to be equanimity under 3 different names).
