Hi Again...
after viewing your videos the question I have is this: Does the Goenka tradition keep statistics on any level? For example, what percentage of students break off ten day retreats, or more closely what percentage of students bring up psychological /& affective issues.
they are by far the largest and most organized vipassana machine although not known for their fleyibility or openness.
cheers

I do not know if the Goenka tradition keeps good records, but I do know that they are not very interested in working with scientists. I also know that a lot of people have contacted me after going on Goenka retreats.

Records are kept from every course, written by the assistant teachers conducting the course in whatever centre or off-centre site and centrally collected every year. Statistics are collated from them, but the information is within the organisation.
The percentage of students not completing courses varies from centre to centre, time to time but ranges from 0% to 20% on a normalish sort of curve.
Confidential records are also kept on students who had difficulties on courses and shared only with assistant teachers who may have that student on a course they were conducting.

Forgot to say - the student in question may, of course, ask to see the records kept and may also request that they be destroyed. If the difficulties were such that the AT would feel they were not qualified to see the student through another course, the application to sit would be refused.
