Fruition moment [Thor Jackson]
Thor Jackson - 2014-05-02 06:26:19 - Fruition moment
Is the moment of fruition all ways just for a split second or does maturing practice extend this moment for longer and longer periods? If it it prolonged, then if there is no experience or experiencer, what happens to you while this is going on, from the perspective of interacting with other people? Or is there some subtle identity/control mechanism going on at the same time?

Strange, no one has an answer.

Extended Fruitions basically shut down consciousness for the individual from a functional point of view, meaning that the meditator is not in touch with the world around them. Nobody interacts while in a Fruition. They don't happen while walking around. Posture is maintained if sitting by unknown mechanisms. Breathing still occurs. The person has no perception of time, just a sense of reality vanishing then reappearing. They only know it had duration to external time if there is some way to time-reference when the entrance and exit occurred.

However, I'm a bit confused by what you say now as I just came across this other post on a similar topic. http://www.dharmaoverground.org/web/guest/discussion/-/message_boards/message/3484318 Your comment on there says "Some can get Fruitions only after long practice on a cushion, others in daily life sometimes, others in daily life easily, others by mere brief inclination.....". Can you explain your contradiction?

Daily life Fruitions during various activities, such as those when driving or walking, will not have duration. They are nearly instantaneous and don't disrupt things. It is like a very sudden gap and then reality restarts very rapidly and continues as before with a nice afterglow added for a bit and that mental-reset quality that is so nice.
Those few who can get external-time-duration Fruitions do so sitting or reclining, not in situations like interacting, walking or driving.
