How do you all feel about teachers who recommend following one's heart / deepest intuition / etc. as the highest authority on the path?  Some teachers (Adyashanti, for instance - not trying to start a discussion about him in particular) are so big on that.  Your heart will lead you to your true calling / your heart knows the next right step on the path / your heart or deepest intuition is a better source than any map.

Is this a higher wisdom or just wishful thinking?

I don't know, but I utilize all information I have and use it as an average. Particularly, intution, intellect, and emotions. Screw the versus, I use all pieces in a melodic fashion. It's a delightful art form as they fluctuate in congruence and tension. All these channels of information do just that, inform. Why not let them all flourish?
