Noting only for Insight Meditation?

I've just finished Part 1 of MCTB and there's a basic question I'd like clarification on before I proceed.

Is noting of the breath ('rising'/'falling') used during Concentration Meditation or is noting only to be used during Insight Meditation?

it is a mindfullness practice associated with vipassana / insight practice
