Think I am shifting into anagami, but it is causing energy problems.

So I have always been a serial masturbator. Up to 11-12 times per day sometimes.

Lately I have noticed the sex drive is vanishing. Some days I don't masturbate at all. This is leading to energetical problems. Where a lot of people say they feel energy diminished after spilling the seed, for me it has always felt comforting, like there is too much energy in me and this regulates the energy. So lately I am having problems that I am really struggling with in that I have too much energy in the body, especially the head, and I can't get rid of it, nor can I use it to do anything with ie in meditation. Does anyone know any energy depletion techniques that work? Showers work...for an hour or so. Touching the ground etc, is not working.

I don't think the lunar stuff going on (eclipse, super blood moon etc) is helping either.

I am both a bit excited but also not really caring that this seems like the final fetter fading towards anagami.

The Pali terms for the specific chains or fetters (Pali: saṃyojana) of which an anāgāmi is free are:
  • Belief in atmān or self
  • Sīlabbata-parāmāsa: Attachment to rites and rituals
  • Vicikicchā: Skeptical doubt
  • Kāma-rāga: Sensuous craving
  • Byāpāda: ill will [1]
The fetters from which an anāgāmi is not yet free are:
  • Rūparāga: Craving for fine-material existence (the first 4 jhanas)
  • Arūparāga: Craving for immaterial existence (the last 4 jhanas)
  • Māna: Conceit
  • Uddhacca: Restlessness
  • Avijjā: Ignorance
Looking at the list above this makes a lot of sense. And I feel free from Uddhacca and Mana, and Avijja to a point, too. Not quite sure I understand Aruparaga - I know what I am, so I am not sure how one can crave immaterial existence when you know you are part of one Consciousness?

I definetly still crave fine material goods - money, fast cars etc. But in the back of my head I know they are all irellevant. And it is not egoic craving anymore. I don't crave money to have more than others. Or fast cars as a status symbol. Rather the experience and happiness they would bring - for a short period of time until the ego wants more. The feeling of driving at 200 miles an hour. The lack of stress to never have to worry about money again. Etc.

I also totally trust my intuition now. And I have found myself unable to read books based on spirituality anymore. I just "feel" deep down that, my intuition knows the right path, and what to do. And lately the what to do seems to be mentioned elsewhere here - morality training. Trying to be the best I can be in this body, right now.

Edit, as this is claims to attainments, I tried to find a simplified list of jhana experiences and found this http://www.katinkahesselink.net/tibet/jhana-2.html, read them all and went through each one in a 5-10 min meditation and stabilised in the 8th jhana, then realised I have been stabilising there fore a good 6 months. Interestingly the fifth jhana describes my first awakening experience many years ago where I felt "like I was facing a huge object in formlessness space". I real elsewhere there is a 9th jhana which is like being unconscious. I have been shifting into that naturally but "waking myself up" because I presumed this was sleep.

There is really some ironic hilarity ensueing for me now because I always went straight into the void and thought there was something wrong with me because "i don't get flashy visuals" when it appears all this time I was skipping those basic meditation steps!!!
Thanks

I think its too fast to come into this attainment conclusion, give it a break, no meditation for a few months or max 5 minutes a day.. time will give the answer, or life will test you anyway, in events,  in sickness, in deathbed. Eventually you’ll know.

While waiting, try to talk with others and see your ego still arise or not, try to investigate what happened actually to your body, your feeling, your mind, whats their nature?
Try to bring your wisdom into daily life, become the solution for your surroundings. Remember if it is not working, always starts to check from yourself, our surroundings is never the problem, ourselves is always the problem, how we view and feel about things is always the problem.
Try to look into reality of life, what if the doctor told you only have a week to live? How will you bring what you obtain into reality? Losing money can hurt you or not? Relationship failure will hurt you or not?

The purpose of arupa jhana is to sense the emptiness of the self, metta, etc. Though some doesnt need to get into the depth of these jhana.
The world would be in joy as we have one more anagami, the one who takes no more suffering from sexual pleasure, ill will, no identity, no fear, no doubt. His surroundings would be flourished.
But becareful for false enlightment : https://www.dharmaoverground.org/discussion/-/message_boards/message/8843098#_19_message_5910662

For the energy, it has no forms, it’s your mind who identify them with anger, horny, happy, healing etc. Being a stream enterer, the master of mind,  they can investigate the source then either to let them be, neutralize and transform into metta , self- healing , happiness etc if you obtain any abhinna from 4th jhana

Try reading through old threads on here about energy or kundalini, you will find a lot of ideas. I don't know much about it myself, but there are apparently lots things you can try like visualizations, good old fashioned regular exercise or sport, grounding practices, practices to help energy circulate into the body and so forth.

Your first stop should be Buddhist kundalini therapist Tara Springett, who can give you guidance to deal with energetic problems: http://www.taraspringett.com/sessions/kundalini-healing/

I’m not an expert, but I suspect that masturbating 10-11 times per day could be considered excessive. When did you start masturbating this much? Did you do this because your libido was naturally high (i.e. you were horny all the time), or to deal with feelings of anxiety? Did this coincide with a developing porn habit? Don’t feel any pressure to actually answer these questions here, but you might want to check in with a therapist about the mental factors driving this habit. If you’re in the United States, Yelp may have reviews showing the top therapists in your area.

If the energetic symptoms are unbearable and you absolutely have to raise your libido, Turkish Honey Paste from Future Alchemy might help: https://futurealchemy.com/shop/turkish-honey-paste/

Bear in mind that this is an unregulated herbal supplement and all caveats apply.

There are many reasons that your libido could be decreasing, including deepening mental tranquility and the concomitant development of dispassion. According to Jeffrey Martin’s research on awakened people (http://nonsymbolic.org/PNSE-Article.pdf), some individuals seem to lose most of their libido right after stream-entry or a deep experience of concentration. According to Martin, libido “lost” in this way can be regained by deliberately cultivating lust / sensual passion.

Regarding attainments, what is your sense of self like in your daily moment-to-moment experience? How would you describe your experience of being in the world before and after awakening? What is your experience of negative emotions like? Has any of this changed over time?

Such energy overload problems are definitively managable. There are several ways to work with it.

This book has a simple technique for dsicharging excess energy through the feet (and hands I think too) into the earth:

https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Light-Tao-Foundational-Practices-ebook/dp/B004J4WM6S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1534688096&sr=8-5&keywords=mantak+chia

The book is mainly about a million other things, but the technique is in there someplace as far as I recall.

You don`t necessarily have to reduce your energy. Just becoming more grounded/rooted and opening certain pathways for hte energy to circulate freely ina way that is harmonizing rather than in a way that amplifies tension will probably ensure that you will stop feeling overloaded but be able to keep and utilize the energy. When the energy is held too high in hte body, especially the head, it often feels excessive and unmanagable. You can ground the energy through standing meditation postures from qigong (called Zhan Zhuang). The two postures usally empazised to beginers are the Wuji posture and the Holding the Ball/Embrace the Tree postures. You can find them here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i0wD8TYKpU&t=2s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1CJZ5MkuqI&t=9s

This is a good book about standing meditation:

https://www.amazon.com/Way-Energy-Mastering-Internal-Strength/dp/0671736450/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1534614667&sr=8-3&keywords=zhan+zhuang

A qigong exercise called deep earth pulsing is also very good at grounding the energy. ITs the first movement in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_G92cb_mvI&t=16s

It can also help to keep attention at the energy center called the lower dan tien. Its in your lower belly, 3-4 finger breadth lengths down from your navel and then into the belly at the level of the central channel. Maintaining focus in this lower belly area helps to store the energy here. It can more easily be held there without it feeling overwhelming than having it in higher energy centers.

You can also increase balance by opening the energy pathway called the microcosmic orbit. Its a major meridian that goes up the spine, over the head and down the front of the body to the root where it coonects again to the channel up the spine. The pathway up the spine is very yang and when energy predominantly travels here it is more active, instense, firelike, not relaxed, sometimes infused with adrenalin. When the energy starts going down the front channel the energy starts to feel much more calm, smooth, harmonious, yin, passive, watery, grounded and managable. When energy can travel smoothly up the spine and then down the front a lot of overload symptoms disapear. Now, SOME energy always goes down teh front channel, its never entirely closed. But it will often be far too clogged, creating a type of congestion that leads to symptoms like yours. This is especially the case if the energy really starts clogging up in the head or centers above the head.

Opening the orbit has some risks of its own for creating energy imbalances but too methods that are considered highly safe are Michael Winns way of doing it through physical qigong movements and Springofrestqigongs method of doing it. Springforest calls it small heavenly orbit I think and not microcosmic.

Winns orbit you can find in his qigong fundamentals package:

https://healingtaousa.com

And the springforest version you can find somewhere on this page:

https://www.springforestqigong.com

Another good way of aproaching this is to learn to disolve energy downwards into the ground as you do by doing the standing disolving practice in Burce Frantzis Opening the Energy Gates of the Body book. It has some simple warms up (which are important to do) and then a simple standing meditation where you learn to disolve energy blocks downward into the ground. This way you learn to really sink the energy and can discharge any form of excess.

If you want personal guidance then teachers from this school:

https://www.kundaliniawakeningprocess.com/blog/

Are experts at helping people manage various forms of energy overload, kundalini sickness and so forth. They can guide you through skype.

You can combine these methods. You can learn the discharge methods I mentioned first to get some quick relief. Then ground and dissolve through standing meditation and deep earth pulsing and then gradually start to work on opening the orbit. Such a combination will presumably lead to the most balance.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and its best to do the grounding via deep earth pulsing and standing meditation for a while before you open the orbit. The more grounded you are initially the less risk of imbalances when you are opening the orbit.
