Are guided meditations usefull at all as far as attaining jhana or lower Insights?? I'm assuming there not. I would think it would be more of a light hypnosis more than anything. But not true meditation in the Buddhist sense.

Know of any that help get to jhana 1?

For me they have never been like a cookcook recipe that always leads to the same results, so I can't say that. I do know that I have gotten into jhanas by listening to Bhante Gunaratana, though, so that might be something to try. On youtube you can find jhana retreats with him. He teaches hard jhana, but I got into light jhanas by listening to his guided metta meditations from the jhana retreat, probably because the timing was right for that particular kind of guidance at that particular point in my practice.

Thankyou so much Linda. I've been doing soft jhana practice braisingtons style .I think I reached access concentration.
